Configuring My Printer for Mac
The preferred way to print is from a dedicated printer connected to your Lucid network.
For convenience, it is possible to print to a printer on the host (typically your home) network.
If you have not already done so add a new printer connection via the click the 'Quick Links' on the left side menu.
Simply click 'Add Printer Connection' and follow the prompts.
To print to host network from your Mac follow the steps below:
- With your new printer connection successfully added, on your Mac, open "System Preferences".
- Open "Printers and Scanners".
- Click the "+" button at the bottom of the list of printers.
- There are three icons at the top of the panel. Click on the middle icon (globe/network icon).
- In the "Address" field, type the IP address of the printer retrieved by your Printer Scan.
- For the "Protocol" field, select Internet Printing Protocol - IPP. (This is typically the default selection).
- The remaining fields will auto-populate. Once completed and your printer model is shown in the "Use" field, click the "Add" button. Your setup is complete. However, if the "Use" field does not auto-populate to list your printer in the "Use" field or an error message such as "Cannot locate the printer" appears after clicking the "Add" button, proceed to Step 8 below.
- NOTE: If IPP is not supported, the "Use" field shows "Generic PostScript Printer". It is possible to print using the "Generic PostScript Printer", but the Mac will NOT take advantage of all the features of the printer. Proceed to Step 9 below.
- In the "Protocol" field, select "AirPrint". The "Use" field will auto-populate and show "AirPrint". Click the "Add" button. Your setup is complete. However, if "AirPrint" is not listed as an available protocol and your printer is an HP model, proceed to Step 10 below.
- In the "Protocol" field, select "HP Jetdirect - Socket". The "Use" field will auto-populate and show the name of your HP printer. Click the "Add" button. Your setup is complete.
